If Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is going to earn himself the Manchester United job on a permanent basis past the end of the season then their February and March fixtures will be extremely important.

Life for Manchester United literally couldn’t have got any better under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. After a poor and boring start to the season the club are on an eight game winning run, have beaten both Arsenal and Spurs away in that run, and are close to a place in the top four.

The turnaround in fortunes since the Norwegian took over the reigns at Old Trafford have been remarkable, with both results and performances completely turning around.

United’s form means that suddenly people are talking about Solskjaer potentially taking the job past when his contract is supposed to come to an end when the season is over.

Previously Spurs’ Mauricio Pochettino was the massive favourite for the job but, having beaten Pochettino’s side recently, the former United striker is making people believe.

The win over Arsenal on Friday night put United into the next round of the FA Cup and they’ve gone and drawn Chelsea away. That means the team’s fixtures between February 12th and March 16th are ludicrous:

Some football fans had argued that Solskjaer’s first six games in charge had been easy and that had massively contributed to his run, but that upcoming run of games is far from that.

Should the Premier League side come out of those eight fixtures still in Europe, the FA Cup and in with a chance of a top four finish then Ed Woodward will have some serious thinking to do.

United’s task in the Champions League against PSG has been helped slightly by the news that Neymar will at least miss the first leg of the tie after his injury.

Chelsea and Arsenal have both been inconsistent this season but the Red Devils don’t have a good record at Stamford Bridge, making FA Cup success difficult.

The games against rivals Liverpool and Manchester City could not only decide if Solskjaer’s side finish in the top four but also have big consequences to where the league title ends up.

Solskjaer wants the job, he really does have the perfect chance to prove himself
